FAQ

Nordic Scent’s mission is to mindfully produce our product with a focus on health and sustainability. Our candles are comprised of clean and ethical components including all-natural soy wax produced from locally grown soy beans, phalate and cruelty-free fragrance oils, glass vessels high in recycled content, and organic hemp or wooden wicks from FSC-certified mills. Our packaging and shipping supplies are recycled, recyclable, and naturally biodegradable. We choose vendors with a similar mission and donate a portion of our profits to local non-profit environmental organizations. More details can be found in our documentation on sustainability.

What kind of fragrance oils do you use?

All of our fragrances are infused with essential oils and are phalate-free and exclude additional known carcinogens, mutigens, and toxins. Our fragrances are also vegan and cruelty-free.

We pour our candles into recycled content glass vessels (very suitable for candle re-use, upcycling, or recycling). Unfortunately, while we love the idea of refilling candles for re-use, we do not currently have the capacity to do so at this time and we also appreciate the carbon impact of product shipping. We currently are investigating more carbon neutral options so please keep checking for updates with regard to refills. We do offer refunds and exchanges if you are not fully satisfied with your purchase. Please see our Refund and Exchange Policy for complete details.

I would like to upcycle my candle vessel. How can I clean it?

It is very easy to clean and reuse your candle vessel for a variety of purposes (such as a drinking glass or desk supply holder). When your candle has burned down to where ¼” of wax remains, let the wax cool and then put the vessel into the freezer for a few hours. Once frozen it is easy to carefully break up and remove the hard wax at the bottom with a butter knife. Soaking the now wax-free vessel in warm water helps soften wick adhesives to remove the remaining wick. A final scrub with warm soapy water and your vessel should be ready for reuse!

How can I optimize my candle burn time?

For some this may be the first time you’ve had a candle with a hemp or wooden wick. Below are some Burning Tips to get the most out of your Nordic Scents candle.

  • For optimal long-lasting and even burns we highly recommend burning your candle for the first time until the wax has reached the edges of the candle vessel (achieving a complete melt pool). Similarly, allowing your candle to burn for 2-3 hours each time you light the candle will help ensure your candle burns evenly throughout its life.
  • Wooden wicks burn best when trimmed to 0.2-0.25 inches (with ash pinched off) before lighting. If you are having any trouble with lighting we suggest melting some of the wax surrounding the base of the wick for “starting fuel” before lighting the wick itself.
  • Wick mushrooming is common in a candle using organic hemp wicks. Please trim to 0.2-0.25 inches before each use for optimal burning.
